Chapter 16: Faithful

*Four Years Later*

“What do you want for dinner James?” Constance asked as she walked into the living room. Here they were four years later and married. She had not heard much from Bryce but she had heard he was doing well and making a name for himself. James and Constance graduated high school and moved in together afterwards. She did however miss Bryce from time to time. Do not get her wrong James made her happy as well; he was funny, loving, kind, and supportive and he would do anything for her. He applied to the police academy after they finished high school; he was the third generation to go and wear the uniform. She was proud of him.

Though she could not help think that there was something missing from their lives. She wanted a child and she knew James did too. Her womb felt empty and so was their spare bedroom. “My heart is aching James. Baby fever is starting to get to me. Everywhere I turn, I see a baby, and my friends are having babies, pregnant women everywhere it seems like.” She confessed while they cuddled on the sofa after dinner. “I know Connie. It will happen for us I promise you.” he replied. He wanted her to be a mother and he wanted to be a father. Well they tried; they tried repeatedly for the last eight months and no luck. Each time their hearts felt it. Conversations between the married couple eventually became far and in-between. They were just going through the motions. It did not help that James worked late and long hours since he was promoted. That left Constance home by herself a lot, so she would absorb herself in her painting and sketching. Deep down, they both blamed themselves for not being able to conceive. They still tried but it all seemed hopeless.

***

James was in the bed passed out from his night shift so Constance decided to do some sketching. Before she could even sit down the phone rang and scared the daylights out of her. “Gee!!” she walked across the room, “Hello? Palmer residence.” she was reluctant to answer the phone to begin with. “Hey Connie.” A male voice said on the other side. The voice that made her heart skip a beat with every whisper. “Bryce? Bryce Green?” she asked. “Yea, it’s me. I got your number from a friend in town. Thought I would call to see how you were. I hope I didn’t interrupt anything.” He said. Constance was silent for a few seconds, “I’m fine. How are you?” “I’m doing pretty well actually but something’s wrong. I can hear it in your voice. Why don't we have some lunch, if you are not busy? Maybe we can talk about it?” “It’s great to hear his voice,” She thought, “Maybe I should go.” She listened to her husband’s snoring coming from the other room. Constance loved him dearly but they had been so distant lately with not being to conceive yet. “Sure. I’ll meet you at the bistro later this evening.” She replied as she hung up. “It would be nice to see him again and catch up.” Bryce has always been easy to talk to even when Constance was not willing to talk.

He has a way of making her feel safe. They met for dinner and caught up on their lives, his years in school, her wedding, and their families. It was nice to be around him again. They finished dinner and prepared to part ways, “It was nice to see you again Bryce.” She said. “Yea it was nice seeing you too Connie. Maybe we can get together again sometime next week?” he asked. She was again hesitant, “Sure. That’s sounds great.” She went to lean in for a hug but ended up kissing him instead. That shocked both of them. She caught a cab back home and just kept thinking. “What the hell am I doing? What are you doing Constance? You are happily mar-. Okay so you’re married.” The stress of trying to conceive was getting to her and her husband. She still loved him dearly. James was sleeping when she got back home so she gently lay down next to him and whispered, “I do love you James.”

Constance awoke to the smell of pancakes in the air. She followed her nose and found James at the stove. “Morning my Love. Sleep well?” he asked. “Yea I guess I did. You’re cooking breakfast?” she was stunned really. “What a husband can’t make breakfast for his wife once in a while? I also take offense by your comment. I can cook don’t make it sound like I’m horrible at it.” She laughed, “But you are horrible at it. The last time you tried to cook spaghetti the spaghetti came out crunchy.” She could not help but laugh. It felt good to laugh with her husband again, to talk to him really. They finished their breakfast (which he did burn) and cuddled on the sofa. It was nice to be near him again. Before they knew it they were making love like they did when they first got married. There was no pressure of trying to conceive, just love.

***
Over the next month James continued to work late and long hours at the station, while Constance found herself constantly restocking on painting supplies. That’s all she could really do, if she wasn’t painting she was thinking about Bryce and that made her feel guilty, so she’d paint even more. It was nice to catch up with Bryce, but it was tearing her apart that she had been unfaithful to her husband. Her and Bryce had rekindled a flame that they once had.

“What the hell was I thinking?” she asked herself as she stood on his doorstep. She took a deep breath and rang the doorbell.
Constance was about to turn around and walk away when Bryce answered. “Leaving in a hurry?” he asked. “Um I was thinking about it.” She tried to give a chuckle but it came out horrible. “Are you okay Connie? You seem tense.” he asked. “Yea I'm okay.” she replied though you could hear in her voice that she wasn't. “Seriously though, you're not okay. What's up?” She figured the best thing to do was to just blurt it out, like ripping off a band-aid. “I'm pregnant!” she shrieked. There was a silence that filled the house completely. “I'm...I'm sorry. You're...preg...pregnant?” his eyes looked like they would pop out of his face. “Yup. I'm pregnant.” she said again. Again there was silence. “Please say something Bryce. Please.”
“Marry me. Just marry me Connie.” he couldn't even believe he just said that. “You can't be serious, Bryce. I'm already married remember. That's why this is such a huge deal.” She sat down, “We shouldn't have done this in the first place.” “Marry me Constance.” he said once more. “You can't be serious Bryce. I can't. I'm married to James. I've done enough to hurt him I can't hurt him anymore.”

“So is that it? Are you just going to end it here?” he looked down at his feet. Constance leaned towards him and gave him one last kiss. “I'll keep in touch but this is it. It has to stop.” She grabbed her keys, “I better go home. I have to tell James everything now.” Constance waved goodbye and left. Bryce was left there watching the woman he loved and his unborn child walk away. “So this is how she felt when I left.” He couldn't think of anything to say, to tell Constance to make her change her mind.

***
Constance made it back home but James still wasn't back yet. She paced the floor, back and forth. “This is a new low Constance even for you. You've sunk so low you're sitting on a couch next to the devil himself!”  “What about the devil himself?” James walked in the front door and startled her. “Oh nothing. Just talking to myself is all.” She gave a nervous chuckle. “What's up? You seem tense.” her husband asked. That's the second time she was asked that in the past hour. “Well actually. I have something to tell you honey.” Constance tried to smile but it probably came out creepy. “Okay what is it?” he couldn't help but react to her creepy smile, “You look like you’re up to something.” “No I’m not up to something. It’s just…I’m pregnant.” She felt her stomach turn. “That’s great honey!! Oh my gosh I can’t believe it.” He ran to hug her. That sinking nauseating feeling she had was getting worse and this time she was sure it was not morning sickness. “Tell him. Tell him that it probably wasn’t his.” she thought.

“We’re having a baby.” Her husband said. Constance looked at his sky blue eyes and wanted to tell him everything, instead she said, “Yup. We are having a baby, our own bundle of joy.” Constance knew she had sunk really low but the words that just came out of her mouth, she would have to live with.

***
Pregnancy for Constance was a rough time. She couldn’t get past the guilt of lying to her husband on more than one occasion. Though she loved the smile he had that was ear to ear, the fact that she was carrying the child of another man. She would get a letter from Bryce now and again; he still could not convince her to leave James. Constance didn’t want to though, her life was by James side and she would eventually have to deal with her transgressions. However, putting them off as she was doing was not going to solve anything. Things would only get worse as time went on and she knew that. “Only two more days.” James said excitedly as he prepared the baby’s nursery. They both agreed to leave the gender a surprise to the very last moment and you tell it was making James antsy towards the end. “That’s just a due date. The baby will come when he/she is ready, you know that honey.” She smiled at his enthusiasm. “I’m going to get some yogurt.” she smiled.  “Okay honey, I have to head to work. Call me if you need anything.” he yelled as he ran out the door.

Constance tried enjoying the quiet that filled the house as she ate her yogurt. Despite how things have transpired, she was excited to be a mom; to have a little bundle of baby-joy to cradle and hold. She looked at the completed nursery, it was not much but it will do for the baby. Afterwards, as she finished cleaning the dishes, a sharp pain struck her in the stomach. “Oh great, not now, seriously not now.” She pleaded, as if that would work. That of course didn’t stop what was to come next. Constance couldn’t decide whether to go through it or make it to the phone and call James. The baby didn’t give her much of a choice.

Constance gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy that she named Cameron. She love him from the first moment she saw him and right away she could see, he had Bryce’s eyes. Her little baby boy was the most precious thing she had ever seen.

***
James was a wonderful father to baby Cameron he loved that boy with all his heart and it showed. Cameron grew more and more as the time went by. Constance started to paint more and more and she stopped replying to Bryce’s letters. “I need to time to think it all through.” She’d tell herself. James was so proud of their little tike.

“Okay say ‘ball’ Cam, say ‘ball’. Oh fine buddy. We’ll give it a rest for today.” He said as he tried to teach Cameron a few new words. The tiny tot was stubborn and James knew that. James also knew from the moment he saw his son's red hair that there was more than meets the eye. He recognized that red hair anywhere. The thought of where it came from crushed him inside. He loved that little boy more than anything. After all the difficulty of trying to conceive, they had their son.

Cameron was down for a nap when James decided to confront her wife. “Constance, there’s something I want to ask you and I want you to be perfectly honest with me. “Okay.” She said as she wiped the paint from her hands. “Is Cameron mine?” he asked before she could even put the rag back down. “Uh. Why do you ask?” she timidly asked. “Constance. I may be dense at times but I’m not stupid. He has Bryce’s red hair and everyone can see that. I guess I just want to know why.”

“She stood there not being able to say anything. “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry James, it was a huge mistake and it’s over. I just couldn't let go of what him and I had.” she told him. James took a step back. “You know I love you right? I love you and Cameron more than anything in the world. And because of that love, I’ll put this behind me. I want to raise him as our own but one day you’ll have to get the courage to tell him the truth; to tell him everything.” Constance knew he was right and she hoped they could move passed it all. James left for his night shift at the station without another word. She heard Cameron stirring and went to check on him. She sat him down to play a game, as they played she whispered to her young son as if he understood, “I hope you can forgive me for everything. Someday I’m sure you'll understand.”

Constance’s mistakes ate away at her little by little. She lived with so many regrets that she couldn’t get passed. James struggled as well, he couldn’t let go of what his wife had done and the bond that he built with his son began to fade overtime. All the while, Cameron grew up believing his parents were happy and loved each other. He would soon grow up to know the lies and deceit his parents tried to hide.

Chapter 15: What has come to be

Constance was doing laundry one warm spring afternoon to help collect her thoughts. In about four months, she could be on her way to college. That is if she received a scholarship like she was hoping, she was still waiting to hear. She had to get away from that house on top of everything. A single mother was raising Constance or Connie as her friends called her. Her father walked out when she was younger and her mother has had her share of boyfriends. She was on boyfriend #9 at the moment. Though they had been together for the past seven years so that was saying something. Joe Willerton was a good person that took care of Connie and her mother; he was just a very quiet kind of man. Constance knew that she wanted to start her own life and be out on her own. She was a good student, making “average” grades. She wasn’t exactly popular but she was content. Back in her sophomore year Bryce Green crossed her path. He was smart, handsome, funny, and sexy to be completely honest. Bryce always had a way of making her feel special.

She was about to break out her textbooks when there was a knock at the door. “I’ll get it!” she ran to answer. It was James Palmer. He’s been her friend since they were in middle school. Yea you could say he was in the “friend zone” with her. Connie always thought he was cute but she just saw him as just a friend. It was obvious that he liked her she just was not interested in him like that. “Oh hey James. What’s up?” she asked him, though she was expecting it to be Bryce. “Hey Connie, there’s a new movie playing at the theater. Want to go see it?” He smiled at her. He did have a great smile. “I was actually getting ready to study.” She replied overlooking his brilliant white teeth. “Oh come on you’ve been studying all week, all month actually. Take a break and have some fun.” “well Bryce is supposed to be coming over to study.” “Oh yeah Bryce. Got to love him.” His words just dripped with sarcasm, “You’ve been spending a lot of time with him lately.
We’ve barely had time to hang out.”  he looked at the floor.

“I know James. It’s just we’re both busy trying to get into this school.” Connie tried to explain. “Yea yea I know. You’re trying to follow mister hunk off to school and leave me behind huh?” James asked. There was silence. “James you know it’s not like that. You could go too if you applied yourself.” she said. “Why? Just to see you two all lovey-dovey? No thanks I see enough of that at school. Listen I’ll catch you later.” He went out the door and back to his bike. James had been her friend for such a long time. She did feel guilty that they hadn’t been spending time together lately. With studying, homework and everything she stayed busy. She sighed and closed the door. “I hate when he gets like this.” Just then the doorbell rang again. Constance quickly opened the door, “Yeah. Oh hey Bryce.” Bryce stood there as handsome as ever. “Hey love, ready to study?” he asked. She could not help but smile. “Yea, I’m ready. Just a little distracted that’s all. What do you want to study first?” she asked as they headed to her room to study. “Was that James that I saw leaving here?” Bryce asked as he sat down. “Yea, he came by to see if I wanted to go to the movies but I declined since we’re getting ready to study.” Bryce looked at her puzzled, “You don’t see it do you?”

“See what exactly?” she tried to play stupid; she was not very good at it. “James likes, no, James loves you. How can you not see that? Everyone in school can see it.” Bryce just smiled in a cocky manner. “I know he likes me, but I highly doubt he loves me. He’s just a good friend anyway he knows that.” Constance replied. “Well yeah of course he knows that. That’s why he gives me the death glare every time we’re together. Not to mention the reason it’s really awkward at times.” Bryce grabbed his book. “Enough about James please. Tell me how your interview went. Did you get that scholarship?” she was eager to hear about her boyfriend's interview with the dean. Bryce was quiet for a second, “Yea actually the interview went great and I was given the scholarship.” “Oh my gosh Bryce that’s great!” she hugged him tight but felt like he was holding back, “what’s wrong?”

“They’re giving me the opportunity for Early Enrollment. If I want to, I can start soon. I have enough credits already to do it.” Bryce told her, reluctantly. Constance backed away from him, “So you’re leaving? When!?” “Probably within the next two weeks or so.” He looked down at the ground, “I’ve really been thinking about this, just in case it happened. I love you Constance I really do and I always will. Not to mention in the fall you can join me.” He gave a gentle smile but he knew by the look on her face she wasn’t pleased. “Yea but truth be told I don't think I could get into that school. No matter how much I studied.” She slumped to the floor. Here she was studying her ass off to get into a school she didn't have the confidence to even get into.  “You can, I know it. It’s only four months and we’ll be together again.” He was saddened a bit, “or is that not what you want?”  She went and sat in her chair, “at this point I have no idea what I want. I want to get out of here.  I have been studying my ass off and yet it still doesn’t seem like it’s enough and now you’re leaving me behind. I don’t know what I want to do but I do know that I don’t want you to leave.”

He grabbed her and kissed her lips, “I know you don’t but this is a great opportunity for the both of us.” Constance didn’t reply, she just stood there in his arms in silence. She was afraid that she might never get to hold him like this again.

***
Constance didn’t say much at the dinner table, she just kept to herself. She was having a hard time dealing with this. Constance loved Bryce and she always had. Now he was leaving, even if it was for a couple of months, who’s to say he wouldn’t meet someone else and she’s left behind for good. She couldn’t see herself getting into that University, let alone going there while he’s walking around campus with a new girlfriend. She let out a deep sigh, “so this must be what James feels. Guess I better call him to let him in on
things.”

James hurried over, whenever Constance called he dropped everything and went running to her. “I can’t believe after all this time this guy is leaving her. I mean I should be grateful since he’ll be out of the picture.” He didn’t even ring the doorbell just yelled a “Hi Mr. and Mrs. Willerton!” as he ran up the stairs.  “Hey Connie. What the hell is going on?” he tried to keep his voice down. For one he was in someone else’s house and second he was trying not to upset her. She was lying on her bed trying to fight back the tears in her eyes, it wasn’t working. “Connie, come on talk to me.”

“He’s leaving me, James. He’s leaving.” She said in a somber tone. “It’s okay Connie.” He wasn’t really sure of what to say, he hadn’t thought that far ahead before he ran over. That was James for you: A hotheaded and impulsive individual. “What did he say? What did you say?”

“I told him to go. I didn’t want to be the one to hold him back. He's worked so hard to get into this school.” She told him. “Is that really what you want?” He asked her reluctantly, he's loved this girl for a long time. Now he had an opportunity to be with her if he played his cards right but instead he said: “Tell him how you feel Connie. Tell him you want him to stay.” he looked down at his roughed up sneakers.  The words were as if he slammed his foot down on a nail. The pain shot straight to his heart. “You love him Constance tell him that.”

She thought about what James was saying; she honestly couldn't believe he was saying it. She got up and walked around the room. “I can't James. As much as I love him, I don't want to be the reason he was unhappy.” James walked up to her and leaned in for a kiss. She tried to pull away but leaned into it, “His lips are so soft.” She thought. Constance pulled away still feeling him on her lips. “What was that for?” she looked at him completely surprised. “If I didn’t I’d probably never get another chance to. Tell him to stay if that’s want you want, be honest with him.” He told her though he was thinking, “What the hell are you saying!?”
“James. I don’t know what to say.” She told him, scared of what to really say. He just shook his head, “I better go anyway. I’ll call you later.” Before she could respond, her bedroom door closed behind him and he was gone.

***
Constance had barely said anything to anyone over the next couple of weeks. She had not seen James since the kiss and Bryce was busy preparing for his departure. She tried to call him a couple of times but couldn’t get herself to stay on the line long enough. What was she to say? She wanted him to stay but wanted him to go and it looked like he is set on going either way. She sat to watch TV with her mom and Joe but couldn’t get Bryce nor James off her mind. James was great, that kiss was…great.

If Bryce did leave what would happen between her and James? The sound of the phone ringing snapped her out of her thoughts and interrupted the episode of The Dinosaurs that her folks were watching. “Hello?” said her mother as she answered, “Connie, it’s for you.” She reluctantly answered. “Hello? Hey Bryce.” you could hear the relief in her voice. “Hey Connie. I just wanted to say goodbye.” His voice was low and somber, “My flight leaves in about an hour. I wish I had come by to see you but I’ve just been so busy with everything.” She did not respond.

“I love you, you know that right?” Bryce added, “I have to do this Connie I hope you understand that and who knows what the future holds.” she did not respond yet again. “Alright, I have to go.” and with hesitation, he hung up. Constance stood there with the dial tone resonating in her ear. “Goodbye.” she whispered as she hung up the receiver.

She went back to watch the TV but she really wasn’t interested in the show. The love of her life was walking out of her life and she felt powerless to stop him. Constance decided she was going to take a shower and head to bed when the doorbell rang. “Who the hell is it now?” Joe mumbled. “It’s okay I’ll answer it Joe.” She replied. She opened the door to find Bryce standing on her doorstep. “What? What are you doing here? You have a plane to catch.” She was surprised to see him. “I know but I don’t want to leave without doing this.” He grabbed her and kissed her lips. “I love you Constance Willerton. I always will and we’ll meet again. I promise you that.” he held her close. “I love you too.”

It took all her strength to let him go and say goodbye.
Would she really see him again? She hoped she would.

Chapter 14: Busy, Beautiful, Babies

Willow and Amelia were growing more and more each day. Cameron and Lilly eventually purchased their own house to raise their little family and they adjusted to life with kids, work and each other. They had their occasional fights but they worked it all out’ they had two kids to care for after all. They both made great parents; Lilly was the over-protective mother while Cameron seemed like one of the kids. “I’m going to get you! I’m going to get you!” he yelled as he chased Amelia all over the floor. She was just like her dad and Lilly could see that. She was adventurous, curious, funny, and not afraid to take risks. Willow on the other hand: She was a bit of a momma’s girl but that was because Lilly could not leave her alone. Willow was the baby whose heart rate escalated that day they were born. Lilly always had a firm grip on her. Cameron felt she was worrying too much, but she was a new mom, she honestly could not help it.

Their friends were well also. Zoe had been doing well with catering she decided to branch out and started her own business. Summer moved to Bridgeport to further “aspiring actress” career, while Emma decided to room with Zoe. She is working on her writing and was hoping to be published sometime soon. No one had heard much from Jason since that day Eric threatened him. They did however hear he apparently was disowned by his dad and sort of dropped off the face of the earth. They all were happy to admit it was peaceful without him around. Eric moved in with his boyfriend after he got a job as a music producer. Their lives had all changed over the past year and a half they stayed in contact as much as possible but life just made it difficult at times.

Cameron was playing with Willow while Amelia sat on the floor flipping through her book when Lilly came home. “Hey guys.” She let out a heavy sigh, “have they eaten yet?” Cameron looked at her, “Was I supposed to do that?” Lilly flipped out, “Cameron! You’re supposed to…” before she finished her sentence, she could see the smirk on her husband’s face. “Ha ha ha very funny.” “Honey, I do know how to take care of my own children you know. I’ve gotten pretty good at it, you know?” Cameron insisted. “Yea I know and I’m sorry.” Lilly was exhausted, she has been working so much that it seemed like she rarely saw the twins and when she did they were in bed fast asleep. Willow and Amelia were growing more and more each day and it was breaking her heart.

After they bathed and put the girls to bed, Lilly decided to have a talk with Cameron. “Things at work have been hectic. I’m so tired and I’m missing so many things with the girls.” Cameron cuddled her on the couch, “Yeah I know you have been busy but things will get better.” “You have always been so optimistic. I’m thinking about taking a break from working. At least until the girls are in school. What do you think?” she said. Cameron didn’t respond right away. Lilly continued, “I’d rather be tired from chasing the girls around all day than be tired from dealing with other people’s crap.” Cameron still didn’t say anything.

“Well what do you think though Cameron?” Lilly asked again. “Is that want you really want to do? If it is than I want you to do it. I don’t want you to be unhappy.” “Seriously? Yea I think the girls would enjoy having their mommy around all day.” He smiled and gave her a kiss. Lilly let out a sigh of relief; it felt like a huge weight is lifted off her shoulders. She’s able to spend the next few months enjoying her time with her busy babies.

***
Lilly was busy feeding and dressing the girls when the doorbell rang. It was Eric. Lilly couldn’t contain herself, she practically knocked him over as she hugged him. “Oh my gosh it’s great to see you!” Lilly and Eric had so much to catch up on; he started dating a man named Noah shortly after the twins were born. “So how’s the new hunk?” Lilly asked excitedly. “I’m sorry did you say ‘hunk’?” He laughed, maybe a little harder than he should have. “Okay fine. How about Piece of Man Meat, Hubby or Love Muffin?” Lilly giggled. “He’s great, they both are actually.” Eric responded. “Both? Oh yeah that’s right Zoe mentioned he had a son. Gavin, is it?” Lilly sat down on the couch. “Yea he’s a little tike around the girls’ age. A little busy body but he’s adorable though.” Erik smiled. “You’re really happy aren’t you?” she asked.

“Yea, it’s been a while since I’ve felt like this.” He was smiling ear to ear.  “I’m really happy for you Eric, who knows maybe you’ll be the nest to get married.” Lilly became giddy. “Yea maybe, I never really thought about marriage until you and Cameron said your vows and all. Though I knew that I always wanted kids at some point but I figured I would adopt when the time was right. Noah and Gavin make me happy, so I’m content.”  Lilly and Eric finished their conversation before he sat down to play with the girls. As Lilly watched, she realized the girls would be celebrating another birthday in two days. She felt an empty space in her heart all of a sudden; she wasn’t sure what it was really.

After Eric left Lilly decided to clean up the house a bit while the girls napped, she was doing the laundry when a thought came across her mind: another baby. That’s what it was, a bit of baby fever. She loved her girls so much but they would be going off to school soon. She wanted another baby and that was apparent, but what she would soon find out was just down that alley. “Guess I better talk to Cameron when I get the chance. I wonder if he’s feeling the same way.” She thought, “I’ll find out.”

***

It was the morning of the twin’s birthday. They were busy as always getting into things left and right. Willow spent the morning chasing her sister around the living room. They had a lot of fun together and Lilly hoped they continued to stay close. Around noon the guests started to arrive, first was Zoe as gorgeous as ever then Eric and Noah showed up. It was great to have most of the group back together again. They spent some time admiring the girls and catching up before they decided to do the birthday cakes. Lilly braced herself; her little girls were getting ready to grow up. She had decided to talk to Cameron later that night since she figured he would be in a great mood.

Willow was first being the oldest and all; she took a deep breath and blew out the candles on her itty-bitty cake.  Willow aged up to be a beautiful little girl like her mother. Next was Amelia’s turn, Lilly held her as she blew or actually spit on her cake.  They both grew up into to beautiful little girls. Lilly tried to fight back the tears. “They’re growing up.” She whimpered. “Well yeah they’re supposed to that.” Zoe laughed, “it will be okay Lilly.” They all ate cake and enjoyed each other’s company. It was around nine when the guests decided to leave. Willow and her sister bathed and headed off to bed.

***

Cameron and Lilly decided to relax on the bed after cleaning up. Lilly cleared her throat, “Today was a big day.” He yawned, “Yea it was. I can’t believe Willow and Amelia have grown so much, seems like they were just born yesterday.” “It really does. That’s kind of what I wanted to talk to you about. What would you say about having another baby?” Lilly asked. Cameron was quiet. He was quiet a little longer than expected and that worried her. “I don’t know Lil. Work has been hectic and I thought you wanted to go back to work once the girls started going to school.” He stood up. “Well I did but we’re not getting any younger you know. Our birthdays are right around the corner. The girls will be teens before we know it and eventually off to college!! We always talked about a big family.” He sighed, “I know we did but this time we can actually plan and decide when to have a baby, together.” “That’s what I’m trying to do now! Let’s talk about this.” Lilly insisted.

“I’m not ready for another baby just yet Lil.” Let’s wait a while longer.” Cameron was about the say something else when Lilly blurted out, “I’m already pregnant.” There was silence, silence that filled the whole house. “You’re kidding me right.” Cameron asked. “Nope. I was going to tell you sooner but…”

“But nothing. It’s just not the right time Lilly.” Cameron was furious. Lilly had never seem him like this before. “So what you expect me to just get rid of it?” Lilly asked.
